What I liked

I love my managers and the environment. They are really good at working around my school schedule.

What I wish was different

I wish I could get Saturdays off more frequently. Currently it’s a little difficult, especially while I’m in school because that’s the only time I can really work. We are a little short handed in the framing department and that sometimes makes it difficult.

Advice

Attitude makes a huge difference in the workplace not just for other’s sanity but for your own.

What I liked

The people that work there are lovely. I was able to work with classmates and enjoy where I work.

What I wish was different

The management was hard to get close to. They had changes in the management and they had a hard time finding another management member, but they finally found one.

Advice

To always stay and work, even if you don't want to work, do it. It helps more than you think and it makes it easier for you to keep your job there longer.

What I liked

The experience of a first time job is something I'll never forget. While I am personally not a great people-person, this job gets me out of my comfort zone and into the unknown. I entered the job with an open mind, and I have been pleasantly surprised. Interacting with customers on a daily basis keeps my spirits high, and while I am an introvert, this job sees me in my more extroverted side.

What I wish was different

It's to be understood that it is a retail job, and customers can get a little bit snappy at times, so if I could change people's attitudes, I would. A more likely change, however, that should be brought to others' attention, is the fact that we do not scan items. Instead, cashiers type everything in by hand. As one can imagine, the hand cramps are horrible, but the bigger issue is how slipped numbers, unnoticed, can lead to a 2.99 item being 29.99 instead... So, I pray that, sooner, rather than later, we can implement a more accurate system.

Advice

A piece of advice when taking any job, or just for life in general, is to understand that, usually, nothing is directed specifically at you. The person spitting across the counter has had a bad week, day, month, or who-knows-what, but it is essential to understand that nothing should be taken personal. If you're doing your job right, and staying calm, there's no reason to take it personal.

What I liked

The professionalism of the staff is nice; the employers try to understand the needs of the employees and the store to make a healthy work environment. The managers also work with my college schedule so I can go to school full time and still work a decent amount.

What I wish was different

I am still working here. The only thing I wish that had been different is when I began working. I should have applied as soon as I began college.

Advice

This is an awesome place for college students to work; it keeps me active - there is always something to work on. The pay is also great for college students. It is above minimum wage, so it helps pay the bills more easily.

What I liked

I loved working with people and seeing how the retail world works in a store like hobby lobby.

What I wish was different

I wouldn’t change anything besides having a scanner at register instead of manually typing everything in. I would also incorporate customer loyalty programs for those who consistently come.

What I liked

I love talking with customers and brightening their day. I love my coworkers and bosses that genuinely care for me. I love working at Hobby Lobby because it is a Christian company; therefore, they respect my religious values because they believe in the same values too.

Advice

I would advise individuals who may be shy/introverted to get a job as cashier because it helps you get out of your comfort zone and boost your confidence. I was very shy when I started this job at 17, but after a few months everyone around me saw amazing improvements. I have learned more about myself by having this job, and it has made me a stronger individual.
