Stockman

November 2016 • Muskegon, MI

What I liked

My co-workers are a diverse group of individuals who I've learned greatly from and have enjoyed getting to know. Not to forget, it can be very uplifting when I've helped a customer find an item in the store they wanted, thanking me for my time.

What I wish was different

There are just some people out there who don't care about how they treat employees or the facilities involved, people who don't teach their kids not to touch breakables or flush the toilet (gross). I thank everyone when I witness their mere simple act of courtesy.

Advice

Retail will help you grow as a person if you let it; don't take things personally.

What I liked

I liked the fact that I was paid and I suppose the fact that it seemed to pay better than the other entry level jobs. I also liked the things that were sold there.

What I wish was different

We had some..."interesting" people there. I kind of wish maybe those people would change their attitudes sometimes.

Full stack developer intern

May - August 2018 • Oklahoma City, OK

What I liked

My favorite thing about working at Hobby Lobby was definitely the company culture. Everyone I worked with was so friendly, and very helpful whenever I had a question. I had a lot of fun working on my project over the Summer and I learned so much from my mentors

What I wish was different

I felt that the internship program was a little disorganized near the beginning of the Summer, because there wasn't a lot they had for me to do. It got better as it went along though, and I was still able to accomplish a lot.

Advice

Communication is super important for software developers! Don't be afraid to ask questions if you're confused about something.

Seasonal Temp

September 2019 • Elk Grove, CA

What I liked

Sundays are guaranteed off as the store is always closed. Good busy job with standards that must be kept. Overall, it's a hard working retail job that provides a lot of experience with customer service.

What I wish was different

The company needs updated registers. Lines are longer than they need to be sometimes because you input prices and discounts manually.

Advice

If you don't know something, talk to your manager or assistant manager. It's better than guessing yourself.

Store associate

July 2020 • Santa Clarita, CA

What I liked

I liked being able to gain experience in creating store displays and learning how to adapt the store to the current needs of the community (such as COVID-19).

What I wish was different

I wish the company would update its system to be more modernized. They are still very old-fashioned in many ways, such as no barcodes or price scanners. They don't have aisle markers or labels. They are not as organized and efficient as they could be.

Advice

Don't overwork yourself to try and live up to impossible standards. Managers will always want 110% but that's not always feasible. Just do your honest and best work that you can. That's all anyone can ask for.
