Research Intern - Cancer Research Center Health Equity - Haile Lab (Paid, On-Site)

Outstanding internship opportunities exist in the Cedars Sinai Cancer Research Center for Health Equity (CRCHE) to gain experience in understanding cancer disparities in the Armenian community, an underrepresented and invisible community in research and literature. Dr. Robert Haile is the director of the Cancer Research Center for Health Equity, Cedars-Sinai Chair in Cancer Population Health Sciences, and a widely respected expert in cancer epidemiology and genetic epidemiology. Dr. Haile leads research that address the disease burden and help move the needle to lower incidence and mortality rates and provide survivors with a better quality of life.

The primary objectives of the intern’s role include establishing and nurturing strong relationships within the Armenian community to cultivate trust and promote active participation in surveys. The intern will possess excellent writing and communication skills to effectively engage with community members and collaborate with the team in research and program evaluation activities, such as developing and testing study questionnaires and analyzing data. The role involves implementing outreach strategies across various platforms, including online channels, social media, to maximize survey participation. The intern will provide periodic progress reports on survey response rates and outreach efforts to the COE director and CRCHE mentor. Preferred qualifications include experience in conducting surveys or market research, outstanding writing skills for research publications, strong interpersonal skills, exceptional organizational abilities, and cultural sensitivity when engaging with diverse communities. This role requires a proactive and adaptable individual capable of managing multiple tasks and deadlines effectively. This position will have a duration for 3 to 6 months on-site.

Months 1 to 3: Over the course of the first three months, the emphasis is on fostering trust and encouraging active participation in surveys within the Armenian community. The project unfolds with concentrated on-site work during this period, setting the stage for the internship and establishing a solid foundation.

Month 3-4:  The intern will be involved in tasks such as developing and testing study questionnaires and analyzing data. The role includes implementing outreach strategies across various platforms, including online channels and social media, to maximize survey participation.

Months 5-6: During Months 5 and 6, the intern will be responsible for delivering periodic progress reports on survey response rates and outreach efforts to both the COE director and CRCHE mentor. By the end of the internship, these reports will showcase the intern's accountability and effective communication in managing survey-related tasks.
 

Required Education & Experience 
•   Must be 18 years of age or older and have a HS Diploma or GED.
•   Must reside in the greater Los Angeles area or surrounding cities while conducting all activities related to the intern appointment.

Preferred Education & Experience
•   College junior/senior majoring in public health or related field strongly preferred. Proficient knowledge of statistical programming (SAS, Stata, or R) is preferred.
