It’s been a joy to work at USDA as an ACE intern. The people are so welcoming and I can tell they really want us to do well in our future careers. It’s clear that they view us as the next generation to take this agency in a positive direction and they are supportive in everything we want to explore.

Advice
I would say take charge of your own dreams and learn everything you can and are willing to learn. When you finally settle on where you want to be after the internship it should be something that you’re passionate about.

What I liked
I loved the energy and excitement that everyone brought when I was onboarding. The job challenges you, however the people do not micromanage you. They are laidback and very good at their professions.
What I wish was different
Nothing. I love the job.
Advice
One piece of advice is to always communicate and be organized.

What I liked
Exploring a new area of the country and working outside! Also a lot of appreciative hikers!
What I wish was different
Would have liked to have gotten my chainsaw certification, most of the cert classes were canceled due to Covid:( Also I wish I had known how many trails would have been motorized that we were working on.
Advice
Apply early and be patient! The USFS onboarding process was long, but everything did eventually go through

Advice
Even if something is not directly involved in the field you think you want to enter post-graduation, every opportunity gives you experience and knowledge that would wouldn't otherwise have had access to.
