“What I liked most about this internship was the diverse, hands-on experience working in Bellevue Hospital's Emergency Department. I was able to shadow real-life medical examinations and shadow many types of surgeries, including open heart surgeries. In addition to the clinical aspect, I learned how to become a patient advocate for the vulnerable communities living in New York City. This included the undomiciled population, impoverished families, and families detained from the boarder. ”

“I had the opportunity to work with real health data from a marginalized population, contribute to a study, visit Rikers Island, and learn about one of the biggest public health systems in the US.”
