Museum Curator II (Museum Curator I considered)
Are you passionate about history, storytelling, and preserving the past for future generations? Come join us at Fort Humboldt State Historic Park in beautiful Eureka, California! Nestled in the North Coast Redwoods District, this role offers the chance to work where history meets natural beauty.
Based out of our district office at 3431 Fort Avenue, you will report to the Cultural Resources Program Manager and take on a key role in protecting and managing the district’s museum and archaeological collections.
As Museum Curator II (Note: Museum Curator I will also be considered), you won’t just manage artifacts—you will be behind-the-scenes making sure each artifact is preserved, protected, and ready to share its story. You will work with the Department’s online collections management system (TMS – The Museum System) and keep track of what’s in storage, what’s on display, and more.
What you will do:
- Plan and manage collection care strategies to preserve historical and archaeological items
- Conduct inventories and oversee museum housekeeping
- Monitor object conditions, security, and environmental controls
- Lead the Integrated Pest Management Program
- Ensure safe handling, storage, and display of objects based on current museum and departmental standards
- Organize and oversee temporary object moves for exhibits and special events
Experience working with Native American communities and collections is highly valued, and collaboration is a big part of this role.
If you are organized, curious, and ready to get hands-on with California’s rich cultural history, this might be the perfect fit for you.
