Scope:

The Research and Development (R&D) Chemist is responsible for developing new products and processes in support of business development under minimal supervision. This position is involved with all aspects of product development through pilot plant trials. This position requires strong organizational, technical, motivational, and problem-solving skills. This position also requires the ability to communicate technical information effectively on all organizational levels. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Execute assigned experiments in R&D laboratory to support new product development!
  • Utilize instrumentation to monitor reaction progress and characterize products (GC, GC-MS, FTIR)
  • Conduct literature searches for relevant chemical information related to assigned projects
  • Document all experiments, raw data, and results in laboratory notebook
  • Develop or modify analytical methods when existing methods are inadequate to effectively measure product quality
  • Generate preliminary chemical process from experimental results for process optimization and cost analysis
  • Maintain product/process technical information book for all assigned projects
  • Work directly with customer representatives and technical staff as needed
  • Periodically report status of assigned projects
  • Ensure R&D laboratory and all equipment/glassware utilized are maintained in a clean and safe condition
  • Assist process chemist and operations with supervising pilot plant runs
  • Perform other functions and responsibilities as requested

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of a B.Sc. in Chemistry from accredited college/university with 0-3 years of industrial R&D experience
  • Working knowledge of general organic chemistry and hands-on experience conducting chemical reactions
  • Experience operating and interpreting data from GC, GC-MS, and FTIR
  • Must be well organized and highly motivated

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with pressurized reaction vessels (Parr reactor, autoclave, etc.)
  • Experience with process optimization and scale-up
  • Typical working hours are 8AM-5PM M-F, with occasional off-shift hours (11PM-7AM) as project needs require
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English
  • No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card)
