Summer Lab Technician

Fox-1 Drafting and Design is looking for a Summer Lab Tech for our customer in Inver Grove Heights.

The company is a leading Asphalt producer and has a need for students looking to gain some hands-on Lab experience for a part-time job in the Spring and full-time in the summer.

This is an AASHTO assessed laboratory. The execution of the Summer Lab Technician's responsibilities is vital to the successful operation of the asphalt terminal.

Responsibilities include determining whether products meet industry and company set standards. This involves performing lab tests, verifying sample properties, and taking necessary corrective action whenever a product is out of spec. The Summer Lab Technician also ensures that safety precautions are followed in the lab, with appropriate personal protective equipment utilized at all times. The Summer Lab Tech will be trained in proper techniques and procedures, ensuring the highest of standards are met as they perform the sample analyses.

Successful candidates:

• Have a strong focus on Environmental, Health and Safety.

• Commit to conduct all business lawfully and with integrity.

• Are able to perform laboratory testing in an efficient, accurate, and precise manner.

• Are able to assist with maintenance and calibration of the laboratory equipment.

• Will ensure accurate data entry and maintenance in industry specific software (LIMS).

Qualified Candidates must be:

• Able to stand 75% of the time.

• Able to safely lift up to 50 pounds.

• Able to visually observe lab tests.

• Willing to utilize Personal Protective Equipment as required.

• Focused on environmental, health and safety consciousness.

• Computer literate; proficient at Microsoft Word & Excel.

• Committed to accurate record keeping.

• Well organized.

• Able to handle multiple tasks.

• Able to work independently and have flexibility in shift scheduling when staggered shifts are needed due to work load.

• A team player with good communication and interpersonal skills.

Education Required:

 High school diploma or equivalent

Education Preferred:

 Students that are currently attending College and have completed two or more college level lab classes. Preference will be given to students who are attempting to obtain their BA or BS in an area of Science such as Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, etc.

Pay for the position will be $19/hr.

The shift in general will be from 7AM – 3:30PM – Monday – Friday, but some days students will be sent home, based on demand.  Average weeks will be 32 - 40 hours per week.
