Mechanical Engineering & 3D Printing Intern (Summer 2025)

About the Role

📍 In-Office – Columbia, SC

As a Mechanical Engineering & 3D Printing Intern at CADmore, you will gain hands-on experience in both mechanical design and additive manufacturing. You will support real engineering projects from concept through production, contributing to CAD modeling, technical drawings, 3D printing, and post-processing. This is a unique opportunity to apply your academic knowledge in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

What You'll Achieve:

  • Assist in the design and development of mechanical components and systems.
  • Create and update CAD models and technical drawings using SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
  • Prepare digital models for 3D printing, including slicing and optimizing files.
  • Operate and maintain various 3D printers (FDM, SLA, etc.) to produce parts and prototypes.
  • Perform post-processing tasks such as cleaning, sanding, and assembling printed parts.
  • Troubleshoot issues in both CAD and printing workflows to ensure quality outcomes.
  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to meet project goals and deadlines.
  • Participate in project reviews and incorporate feedback into designs.

Skills You'll Need to Bring:

  • Technical Proficiency: Working knowledge of mechanical design principles and CAD tools.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to produce accurate, high-quality designs and prints.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Comfortable diagnosing and resolving design or production issues.
  • Collaboration: Able to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Communication: Clearly explain technical decisions and design choices.
  • Adaptability: Willing to learn new technologies and tools as needed.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience with 3D printing equipment or post-processing techniques.
  • Familiarity with slicing software and file preparation for printing.
  • Previous internship or project experience in engineering or manufacturing.
  • Exposure to different 3D printing technologies (FDM, SLA, SLS).
  • Interest in product development, rapid prototyping, or digital fabrication.
