Choir Director Job Description
- Overview
The Choir Director is an integral part of the ministry of the Church; a committed Christian who is deepening their personal relationship with Jesus Christ and is a model to others.
- Qualifications
- Must pass Criminal background and Child abuse clearance.
- Mature and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
- Lives an exemplary life based on clear biblical principles
- Supports and agrees of the mission, principle, and bylaws of FBCA
- If not a member of FBCA be willing to become a member and be an active member of FBCA
- Accomplished vocalist with choral group experience.
- Instrumental skills such as piano, guitar, etc. (Helpful, but not required).
- Bachelor's degree in music preferred or equivalent experience.
- Ability to lead and perform various styles of music.
- High level of musicianship.
- Excellent personal communication skills essential: enthusiastic, positive, and
Organized. - Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and aptitude to learn other software applications
A visionary and a builder.
C. Responsibilities
- Prepare and direct anthems for the Sunday morning service once a month as well as preparing special Cantatas (programs) at Christmas and Easter. The anthems should be appropriately coordinated with the Pastor's sermon.
- Rehearse the choir weekly on Thursday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30 in Room 103, and as additional times identified as special needs.
- Work closely with accompanists, providing music well in advance of a rehearsal.
- Maintain the music library (file and organize); keeping the music room orderly and neat.
- Recruit and develop new choir members.
D. Accountability
- The Senior Pastor and the leader of the Worship Arts Team.
- Attend Worship Arts Team meetings to facilitate communication and planning.
(Meetings are held monthly or bi-monthly, as needed.) - Attend Church Staff meetings on Tuesday morning from 9:00 am to 12 pm.
E. Terms of employment
- Compensation commensurate with experience: (to be determined)
- Weekly hours
- Tuesday Staff Meetings – 9am – 12pm (as needed)
- Thursday Rehearsals - 7:00pm – 8:30pm
- Monthly Choir Anthem – 10:00am – 12:00pm
- Planning Time – 2 hours
- Worship Team meeting – (as needed)
- Probationary Period – first 3 months as determined by Worship Team members
and Senior Pastor. - Choir does not meet, practice, or perform during the months of June and July.
F. Compensation
- As full compensation for all services provided the employee shall be paid at the rate of $23 at 10 hrs a week with the expected hours mentioned above to be worked each week. Such payments shall be subject to such normal statutory deductions by the Employer.
- The salary mentioned in paragraph (I) (a) shall be reviewed on an annual basis
- All reasonable expenses arising out of employment shall be reimbursed assuming the sum has been authorized prior to being incurred and with the provision of appropriate receipts.
