
Internship in Structural Design

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
Sutherland’s internship program is designed to provide current students in structural design, packaging engineering, or similar disciplines with hands-on experience in packaging and display manufacturing. Interns will work closely with experienced professionals on real customer projects-- gaining valuable expertise in structural design principles, corrugated material properties, manufacturing dynamics, and customer interactions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design innovative packaging, displays, and signage using corrugated materials
- Take part in design projects from concept through to delivery
- Design original pieces, including illustrations and infographics
- Participate in client meetings and presentations
- Collaborate with internal teams to brainstorm ideas and solve customer challenges
- Contribute to continuous improvement
DURATION AND HOURS
The internship will run from 3 to 6 months, starting in May and running through December 2025. It is a part-time commitment, at 20 hours per week with a full-time option. This position will be paid at $25/hour.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Currently enrolled as a Bachelor or Master level student in design, engineering, or related fields
- Strong academic performance and a passion for designing physical objects from concept to prototype to production
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to combine materials, structures, and layouts effectively
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to collaborate in a team-oriented environment
- Proficiency with design software such as Artios, InDesign, and Balsamiq is preferred but not required.
