Museum and Education Coordinator

Museum and Education Coordinator – Model T Museum, Richmond, Indiana

Reports Directly to: Executive Director

Roles & Responsibilities

The Museum Visitor’s Experience

The primary responsibility of the Museum and Education Coordinator is to ensure that every visitor to the Museum has an enjoyable and educational experience. The Coordinator must bring a positive and welcoming attitude to the job. Responsibilities include:

 

Staffing, Training, and Financial Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the Museum has proper coverage at all times, filling in for other employees or volunteers when necessary.
  • Building and/or maintaining a team of volunteers to assist with various tasks around the Museum.
  • Training volunteers (with assistance from the Executive Director) and maintaining ‘best practice’ training materials.
  • Soliciting and tracking visitor statistics and surveys.
  • Balancing the sales drawer at the end of each shift, preparing daily sales receipts, and ensuring they are delivered to the business office.

 

Facility and Accessions Oversight:

  • Conducting a daily ‘walk-through’ to ensure Museum spaces are clean, vehicles are polished, and displays are in good order.
  • Overseeing regular maintenance and repairs of the Museum’s collections, recruiting qualified volunteers as needed.
  • Ensuring Museum buildings and grounds are clean and free of debris, and all equipment is in good working order.

Education and Outreach

The Coordinator is responsible for demonstrating the Museum’s mission to collect, preserve, and exhibit artifacts from the Model T Ford Era, and to educate the public. Responsibilities include:

Educational Programming:

  • Conceptualizing and organizing seminars and workshops that promote the Museum’s mission.
  • Developing and updating educational materials for outreach.

Communications:

  • Keeping the Executive Director informed of Museum activities and events for social media and website updates.
  • Keeping all staff informed of scheduled tours.
  • Writing the “Museum Updates” section for Vintage Ford magazine.

Homecoming and Special Events:

  • Serving as the lead staff person for Homecoming and other special events, working closely with the Executive Director to plan and execute all aspects of the events.

 

Responsibilities with the Executive Director

Thoughtfully Growing Our Collection:

  • Working within the assigned Museum budget.
  • Adhering to the MTFCA Procedure for Accepting Donations policy, working with the Museum Advisory Committee on donation decisions. 
  • Ensuring donors are promptly recognized for their gift and thanked sincere gratitude and that they receive a thank you letter containing all information necessary for their taxes.
  • Actively participating in cataloging the Museum’s collection upon arrival of items.
  • Conceptualizing, designing, and creating new displays and exhibits.
  • Adapting to the Museum’s changing needs and atmosphere.

 

Schedule and Compensation

  • Schedule: Part-time (28 hours), Tuesday through Friday 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Pay: $15.00/hour

This position requires in-person work and does not offer the option to work from home.

Knowledge of museum work is a plus but not a requirement. We will train the right person.

 

Qualifications
- Public speaking skills
- Strong communication and writing skills
- Ability to manage budgets and fundraising activities
- Familiarity with databases, research, and collection management
- Excellent presentation skills and customer service experience

- Interest in history and/or antique automobiles
