About Our Work
Youth in Arts (YIA) is an education nonprofit founded in 1970 by local arts advocates responding to diminishing arts resources available for California students in the Bay Area. Youth in Arts builds visual and performing arts skills through innovative and in-depth programs that foster confidence, creativity, compassion and resilience in students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. We develop capacity among educators and teaching artists through intentional professional development and growth opportunities, advocate for equitable access to arts education and offer opportunities for young people
to share their creative voices in their communities. Through direct education and advocacy, we continue to work towards access to a creative life as a right for all students. Our programs impact the creative and interpersonal growth of thousands of students in and around San Francisco’s North Bay, and we are proud to share that we have reached over 1 million students in our 50 year history.
