The Cobblestone Society & Museum-Summer Internship
Overview
The main focus of this internship is to capitalize on the strengths, special skills and/or aspirations of the intern to customize a seasonal project that would benefit the Cobblestone Society & Museum. The student may be assigned work with the Museum’s collections, archival records and/or extensive photograph collection. The added benefit of this internship is to gain direct experience with day-to-day museum operations while assisting the Museum Director or designee in daily activities as assigned.
Requirements
- This intern will successfully complete training to become a docent, following prescribed methods employed at the Cobblestone Museum in order to gain an understanding of the history of its buildings and collections.
- Work hours for this position are 10 am – 4 pm, Tuesday – Saturday. This internship will be in effect on dates to be determined May - August.
Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities may include:
- Conducting educational tours for visitors
- Interacting with staff, volunteers and visitors
- Using a computer to provide administrative support, possibly gaining familiarity with PastPerfect museum software
- Contributing content on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
- Other projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Interest in history, museums, education, public speaking, or related fields
- Proficiency with the English language, spoken and written
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups of all ages
- Willingness to learn and follow professional museum practices
- Ability to accept supervision and be flexible in changing situations
Compensation
This is a part-time position. Pay Rate: $15.50/hour.
