Draftsperson
ABOUT US
Solidoors is a premier manufacturer of high-quality, custom wood doors that specializes in large-scale residential and hospitality projects. We blend craftsmanship with careful planning and fabrication technology to deliver superior products that meet the most demanding architectural and design standards. Operating in a fast-paced, detail-driven environment, we ensure seamless execution from concept to completion.
We are seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented Drafter with strong technical expertise in custom cabinetry, door production, and/or architectural millwork to join our growing team. This individual will be responsible for producing precise shop drawings, fabrication diagrams, and technical documentation while actively identifying and resolving discrepancies. Rather than just drafting what is specified, the ideal candidate will be an analytical thinker who can apply their design rationale to evaluate details, anticipates potential conflicts, and proposes well-reasoned solutions.
Note: this is a new business that requires individuals who are comfortable working in an entrepreneurial setting with an “all hands on deck” mentality. If you are searching for a standard 9-5 job, this may not be the position for you. We are looking to hire for this role immediately.
Key Responsibilities:
Precision Drafting, Documentation, & Planning:
- Develop highly accurate shop drawings for custom solid core wood doors that are easy to read through effective use of lineweight, line type, and hierarchy.
- Respond to redlines, markups, and revision requests in a timely manner.
- Evaluate, interpret, and incorporate information from hardware tear sheets, installation templates, and technical specifications into technical drawings.
- Produce diagrams for clarification or ideation as necessary.
- Ensure that drawings are aligned with the most up-to-date hardware submittals.
- Oversee, review, and plan for drafting work that may be outsourced as necessary.
Critical Thinking & Conflict Resolution:
- Analyze architectural drawings, door schedules, and hardware specifications to identify potential discrepancies.
- Evaluate drafting decisions critically and holistically, ensuring that details are functional, manufacturable, and in compliance with project specifications.
- Document and organize RFIs (Requests for Information) in a clear and structured manner to communicate conflicts or missing details to other teams, architects, designers, and clients.
Process Optimization & Advanced Drafting Strategies:
- Continuously assess and refine the drafting process to improve accuracy, efficiency, and coordination with production.
- Implement BIM technology, computational design methods, and parametric workflows to enhance drafting efficiency.
- Organize drawing sets systematically, ensuring clarity and ease of use for project managers and fabricators.
- Create 3D models of doors to visualize design intent, assist with coordination, and detect potential issues before fabrication.
Qualifications:
- Highly proficient in a drafting software (AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, etc.)
- Experience in fabrication-aware drafting, ensuring smooth transition from digital models to physical production.
- Deep understanding of millwork drafting, solid core door construction, and hardware integration.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to think through technical details and manufacturing constraints.
- Ability to analyze and interpret architectural drawings, tear sheets, and installation templates.
- Experience in creating and managing RFIs, ensuring clear documentation of design conflicts or missing information.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to structure drafting processes for efficiency and clarity.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, etc.) and collaborative file management.
- Proficiency in Bluebeam, Procore, or other management software
- Bonus: Experience with BIM technology, computational design, and parametric workflows.
- Bonus: Proficiency in Excel, and/or relevant project management software.
- Bonus: In-depth knowledge of door hardware, best practices related to installation, high-end millwork materials, hardware, and manufacturing processes.
- Bonus: Fluency in Spanish and/or Mandarin
