Theatre Production Intern

POSITION PURPOSE

The Theatre Production Intern will play a vital role in supporting the Mainstage season, contributing to various aspects of production while honing skills in carpentry, scenic painting, prop creation, stage management assistance, deck operations, light board programming, and more. This internship offers hands-on experience in maintaining the daily operations of an 89-seat, state-of-the-art theatre, specializing in performances for family audiences. Through this opportunity, the intern will develop practical skills and professional expertise in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

Supervised by Theatre Production Manager / Mentored by Theatre Production Associate

POSITION SUMMARY 

  • Attend production meetings, load-in, strike, and rehearsals or performances as scheduled. 
  • Support daytime programming as schedules allow. 
  • Work closely with Production Manager to schedule and support production meetings and load-in schedule
  • Refine carpentry skills with hands-on experience by supporting the build of two mainstage shows, working directly with the Production Associate and local professional scenic designers. 
  • Support contracted designers in light hang and focus, prop and/or puppet building, and costume creation as needed.
  • Communicate with the stage manager to perform necessary maintenance and fixes during a production run. 
  • Support the Production Manager and Production Associate with load-in, tech week, and strike
  • Support daily free Pop Up Performances 
  • Opportunity to lead projects and learn skills based on the learning goals set by the intern.
  • Perform other duties as identified by supervisor, including weekly floor check and covering front desk check-in as needed

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Coursework in theatre, technical theatre, carpentry, education, or a related field
  • Experience leading interactive and engaging theatre programs is a plus
  • Carpentry, crafting, theatrical rigging, or theatrical lighting experience is preferred.
  • Available Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays.

  • Able to climb a ladder up to 12-feet

SCHEDULE

  • January-June, 15 hours/week
  • Final schedule to be mutually determined. 

COMPENSATION

  • $16/hour. 1 hour of earned pay leave for every 40 hours worked. Internship is temporary position of approximately 150 hours.
