Dr. James A. Ferguson Emerging Infectious Diseases Research Initiatives for Student Enhancement (RISE) Fellowship Program (12-Month)
The Dr. James A. Ferguson Emerging Infectious Diseases RISE Fellowship includes 6-month (part-time and full-time), 12-month (full-time), and summer (full-time) public health research fellowships funded by the CDC for medical, dental, pharmacy, veterinary, public health, allied health, or social sciences graduate programs. Students who are interested in conducting research in the areas of infectious diseases and/or health disparities and have a 3.0 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale are eligible. Fellows receive mentored research, professional development experiences, leadership skills, and are supported to present their research at national meetings.
Applications for the Ferguson RISE Fellowship open October 7th, 2024. The 12-month and summer applications are due on or before January 31, 2025, and the 6-month applications are due December 2nd, 2024.
Eligibility
· Candidate must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student in a medical, dental, pharmacy, veterinary, public health, allied health or social sciences program during the entire summer program. The 6-month and 12-month fellows include students who are actively enrolled in graduate school or have graduated within one year of the start of the fellowship.
· Candidate must be a highly qualified scholar with at least a 3.0 GPA or better on a 4.0 scale.
· Candidate must be able to commit to participate in program activities for the length of the fellowship.
· Candidate must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or U.S. permanent resident.
12-Month
- Fellows will participate in 2 weeks of orientation. Orientation is Monday, Monday, May 26, 2025, through Friday, June 6, 2025.
- Weekly Seminar: Ferguson-12 will participate in Thursday Research Accountability Groups and Public Health Seminars.

- This program begins Monday, May 26, 2025, and ends Friday, May 22, 2026.
