Why EM MSIPP?
The mission of the Minority Serving Institution Partnership Program (EM MSIPP) is to create and support a sustainable career pathway that prepares a diverse workforce of talented students to make immediate and significant contributions to the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Environmental Management (EM). To achieve this mission, MSIPP develops strategic partnerships between Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) and DOE-EM, investing in student enrichment programs, curriculum development, research efforts, and internship opportunities. EM MSIPP develops programs that align with DOE-EM missions to enhance research opportunities at underrepresented colleges and Universities in efforts to diversity the STEM workforce.
Job Description
The EM MSIPP internships are 10-week summer experiences where participants complete research projects that are relevant to EM's ongoing mission. The internships are supported by six U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Laboratories as well as the EM headquarters. Projects assigned to interns are presented at the end of their internship in either poster session or paper, depending on the host laboratory.
Responsibilities
- Provide a review of optimization and uncertainty quantification techniques.
- Run optimization techniques for emerging computing paradigms development.
- Provide a review of synthetic data generation and uncertainty quantification techniques.
- Generate synthetic data and provide its level of confidence or uncertainty.
Job Specifics:
- Location: Savannah River National Laboratory, Aiken, SC

- Pay: $13 to $17 per hour

Eligibility Requirements
- Majors: Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Machine Learning
- Must be a US Citizen
- Enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited MSI.
- Must have a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Must be pursuing a STEM degree to include cybersecurity and artificial intelligence majors
- Successfully pass a drug test upon selection
