As an intern, your time will be split between a core program shared throughout the cohort and work, projects and programming designed specifically for the department you are selected to join.
Our Commercial Lines Department is excited to host an intern for the upcoming 2025 summer program! This position will be located in Portland, OR. Day to day responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Policy Documentation and Filing:
- Assist with reviewing, organizing, and filing policy documents, endorsements, and certificates.
- Maintain accurate records of policy changes and updates.
Quoting and Proposals:
- Support account managers by gathering information needed for quoting new and renewal business.
- Assist with preparing proposal documents for client presentations.
Data Entry and Systems Management:
- Enter and update client and policy information in agency management systems.
- Ensure that databases are accurate and current.
Policy Renewals:
- Assist in the renewal process by preparing renewal summaries and reviewing existing coverage for accuracy.
- Help with tracking renewal timelines to ensure policies are processed on time.
Research:
- Conduct research on various insurance carriers and products to assist with coverage comparisons.
- Keep updated on industry trends and regulatory changes.
Client Onboarding:
- Assist with the onboarding process for new clients by gathering necessary documentation and setting up accounts in the system.
- Ensure all new client paperwork is completed accurately.
Collaborating with Underwriters:
- Assist in submitting applications and supplemental information to underwriters.
- Help follow up with underwriters for quotes and policy changes.
Marketing and Business Development Support:
- Assist with marketing efforts by preparing marketing materials for prospective clients.
- Support business development initiatives by researching potential leads.
Administrative Support:
- Perform general administrative tasks, such as scheduling meetings, organizing files, and assisting with mailings.
- Help manage office supplies and ensure documents are properly archived.
Professional Development:
- Participate in training sessions, webinars, or workshops to deepen knowledge of commercial property and casualty insurance.
- Shadow account managers and producers to gain insight into client interactions and service management.
We’re proud of the success many of our former interns have had when they’ve pursued careers as IMA associates’ post-graduation and see our internship program as a key talent pipeline. Because of this, preference is given to students closer to graduation, who demonstrate a curiosity about future employment within our industry.
You Should Have
- Currently pursuing an Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in a program related to one of our host departments
- Students anticipated to graduate in December 2025 or Spring 2026 will be given preference
- Previous work or internship experience in a professional services or similar environment may be useful, but not required
- An entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to problem-solve, think critically, and provide creative solutions
