Digital Communications Specialist

Communications - Digital Communications Specialist

SUMMARY:

Supports the communications and public relations strategies and tactics for Okemos Public Schools. This role will develop digital content tactics that align with overall communications strategies that engage key stakeholders such as teachers, families, administrators, external partners, and the media. In addition, the Specialist will work to increase public and staff awareness of events, programs, services, and goals of the district.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages district website to ensure information is current
  • Manages video streaming and recording of Board of Education meetings
  • Designs layouts for school publications, forms, and other printed/electronic materials
  • Supports the delivery of communication plans for district’s strategic plans and building initiatives
  • Manages the district’s overall social media presence
  • Supports individual schools in developing and enhancing their social media presence
  • Emceeing various district-sponsored events
  • Manages video recording and live streaming of key school events
  • Takes photographs and videos for district use
  • Oversee students supporting video recordings, which may include training
  • Works a schedule that includes evenings and weekends
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism,, or related field
  • Minimum of three years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or media relations or similarly related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience with public speaking
  • Experience designing materials for print, web, and social media
  • Demonstrated success in bringing consistent, positive media attention to an organization
  • Excellent editing abilities for both written and video platforms
  • Understanding of copywriting, graphic design, layout, and publishing
  • Experience in photography and videography required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is required to interact with staff, meet deadlines with severe time constraints, and occasionally work irregular or extended work hours. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job the employee will drive occasionally.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and move up to fifty pounds
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly via telephone or video

SALARY: = $50,000 - $57,000
