AE Designer Internship Summer 2025

The Team

We are seeking an AE Designer Intern to join American Tower’s U.S. Tower division’s Engineering team.  The Engineering team maintains the safety and longevity of our towers and ensures a high level of compliance with industry standards. Day to day you will use Computer Aided Drafting and Design (“CADD”) to develop wireless carrier-specific construction drawings that may include electrical layouts, site plans, customer installation drawings, and structural modification drawings for telecommunication towers.  You will partner with cross-functional team members to ensure structures and other assets meet business standards.

The Summer Internship at American Tower is a 12-week intensive program, running from May 2025 through August 2025. You will be introduced to key day-to-day processes and play a vital role as a valued team member. You will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful projects, receive mentorship from experienced professionals, and develop your skills in a supportive and dynamic environment, providing you with hands-on experience and valuable insights to prepare you for a successful career in the industry. This is a hybrid position.

What You Can Offer Us 

  • Operate AutoCAD with basic understanding of national and internal CAD standards; prioritize work queues to meet deadlines.
  • Collaborate with Design team members and Engineers on design matters.
  • Maintain drawing integrity by continually updating CADD drawings with applicable additions and changes.
  • Utilize surveys and other information sources to maintain the accuracy of telecommunication towers’ compounds. Evaluate the best location for proposed equipment within compounds while considering contractual restrictions and ease of access.
  • Coordinate with team members and organizational partners to incorporate vendor equipment in construction documents and details.
  • Create unique detailing and design for basic projects consisting of steel design, electrical engineering, and civil engineering.
  • Revise drawings in accordance with instructions from the engineer, customer and other team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Need to Succeed 

  • Current enrollment in a 2-year college degree program required.
  • At least one completed collegiate AutoCAD course required.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred.
  • Ability to produce accurate, detail-oriented construction drawings and site plans.
  • Proficient with computer software programs, including AutoCAD and Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work with different functional groups and levels of employees to effectively and professionally achieve results.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast-paced environment.
