Design Assistant
Summary:
Assist staff architects and planner in assembling data, producing drawings, publications, preparing designs, plans, working drawings, specifications, drafting, studies, reports, surveys, and research activities. Design Assistants will be given the opportunity to follow a project through from beginning to completion, working on all available phases of the project under the supervision of project staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist Community Design Center staff and clients in preparation and production of measured drawings, sketches, working drawings, design studies, graphics, building code and zoning reviews, feasibility studies, alternative plans, specification, model making, cost analysis, administration of construction and projects.
Assist staff and clients with research efforts, outreach, and administration of affordable housing programs and community facilities development.
Qualifications and Training:
Student or recent graduate Architectural or Planning student. Ability to draft. Requires basic drafting skills and academic preparations and knowledge of design, working drawings, construction administration, budget planning and management. AutoCAD experience required.
Ability to work effectively in a small office environment with diverse staff, low income and minority clientele.
The Design Assistant is a position established to provide students and recent graduate with professional level work opportunities to augment their academic training and provide work experience.
The Community Design Center does its utmost to prevent and reduce the spread of COVID-19, but due to the nature of the job, there may be times the Design Assistant might be asked to physically be at job sites and/or client meetings. The Community Design Center follows all state and local health guidelines and ordinances, and will try and accommodate everyone's health concerns.
