Laboratory Technician

Nesco Resource has partnered with a growing company in their search for a Laboratory Technician. This position is a long-term opportunity, with the potential for permanent hire.

 

Summary:

  • The Laboratory Technician provides technical expertise in analytical instrumentation and chemistry laboratory experiment design. The technician will assist in sample preparation for all incoming GC-ECD and ICP-OES analyses. Additionally, they may conduct experiments, analyze results, generate reports and troubleshoot instrument.
  • The Laboratory Technician will also provide assistance when needed in supporting the Director of EHS and the EHS Department with the EHS Management System and ISO 14001 and 45001 management practices. These support activities will be secondary to the primary position.

  • Temporary-to-permanent role
  • Pay: $25/hr.
  • Hours: Full-time, M-F, 8 hours/day
  • Location: Onsite in Coeymans, NY

What you need to apply:

  • Current student OR recent graduate with their Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry (or similar field)
  • High school diploma with 1-2 years of laboratory experience.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Maintaining Lab cleanliness- cleaning glassware and countertops, sweeping floor, other duties as assigned.
  • Maintaining instrument and equipment logbooks.
  • Managing and maintaining records for laboratory chemical inventory
  • Managing and maintaining records for laboratory dry consumables inventory
  • Daily instrument calibration.
  • Maintaining and Inspecting PPE, Eyewash Station, and Fire Extinguisher

Additional Responsibilities (As Needed):

  • Coordination of sample and lab waste disposal.
  • Work with gas cylinders and dewars:
    • Attaching/detaching flexible pigtails to/from the appropriate CGA fitting on compressed gas cylinders/dewars.
    • Leak testing all appropriate connections between the cylinders/pigtail/ regulator/instrument/etc., as required by internal SOPs.
    • Monitor and report potential gas leaks via Airgas Continuous Monitoring System (CAM).
  • Support general QC testing as needed through various wet chemistry prep and sample analyses.
  • Perform method/instrument troubleshooting as requested as well as identify and implement improvements to existing methods and or equipment.
  • Identify and implement process/procedural improvements related to Quality Control functions to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assist others in the lab as requested.
  • Maintain control and confidentiality of documents and information.
  • Ability to work unscheduled and overtime hours as needed.
  • Review of EHS and ISO Policies and Procedures
  • Assisting in EHS and ISO audits
  • Assisting in EHS Inspections
  • Assisting in assigning and tracking of regulatory required training
  • Assisting in Incident Investigations as needed
  • To meet Regulatory requirements and standards set internally and those by the EPA
  • Conduct business in a responsible manner that complies with all NY State, EPA , and OSHA regulations, or otherwise as applicable.
