O2 Treehouse is a design-build treehouse company that specializes in bespoke treehouses. Designer and builder Dustin Feider started O2 Treehouse to inspire people to reconsider how we can harmlessly co-exist with nature. Our philosophy is advancing harmony with the natural world and fostering stronger relationships with nature and our loved ones through time spent at a new elevation. 

Position Description 

We are currently looking for Apprentices to work in our Oakland-based fabrication studio as well as on our job sites. The duration of the apprenticeship can be flexible based on the candidate's availability. These positions offer invaluable training for those who are interested in breaking into the world of sustainable building, product design, and/or rigging. Apprentices receive on-the-job training for anything with which they are not already skilled. Apprentices perform the following duties and professionally undertake the following responsibilities - 


 

  • Fabricate treehouse components at the studio and on the job site which will include:
    • Carrying out specified processes to prefabricate structure components
    • Working in small teams in the assembly of pre-fabricated parts
  • Build ground structures on job sites
  • Build treehouses on job sites
  • Move materials
  • Other duties as may arise from time to time and as may be assigned to the contractor.

The above duties are physically intensive and will include the following:

  • Tree climbing
  • Carpentry and/or finish carpentry
  • Metalworking including using an ironworker
  • High-tension cable rigging

Travel for extended periods to national and international locations is required. Work may be seasonal or on a per-project basis as discussed upon the start of the position. 

Pay has the potential to increase quickly for those who adapt and learn quickly, work hard, and have a great attitude. There is also an opportunity for more full-time employment with O2 Treehouse for those who are a great fit. 

For builds outside of the city, food and housing is provided. However, for projects based within Oakland or SF, we are unable to provide these items at this time.

Desired Qualifications 

The ideal candidate will - 

  • Maintain a constant focus on personal and crew safety.
  • Communicate well and be cooperative with the rest of the O2 Treehouse team.
  • Be able to grasp a big-picture understanding of project fabrication requirements.
  • Have a positive attitude and proactively work to find quickly and efficiently solve issues that arise during the build process.
  • Have a passion for responsible and sustainable building and product design, eco-tourism, and a genuine interest in the ecological micro-architectural movement.
