Stylist Assistant
I'm Nina Q, a Santa Barbara–based stylist and designer specializing in vintage clothing. I work out of my studio, The Story, which I share with other creatives in the industry. My work falls into two areas. Wardrobe styling is my work for brands and companies: curating and styling looks for campaigns, shoots, and editorial projects. I also do thematic styling: building looks and wardrobes for individual clients around a specific vision, mood, or story. Lastly, I design upcycled pieces, giving vintage and secondhand garments new life. I'm looking for a creative, reliable, hands-on assistant to help keep my studio running and my online presence growing.
About the Role
This is a flexible, part-time paid position averaging about 10 hours per week, with more hours available during photo shoots. It's a great fit for a student who loves fashion, knows social media, and doesn't mind getting their hands dirty. You'll work directly with me and get real, behind-the-scenes experience in wardrobe and personal styling, upcycled design, content creation, and running a small creative business.
What You'll Do
- Create, schedule, and post content on Instagram, including photos, reels, stories, and captions
- Help grow engagement by responding to comments and messages and tracking what's working
- Assist with website and online store updates on Shopify and Square, such as uploading new pieces, writing product descriptions, and editing photos
- Support wardrobe and thematic styling projects and photo shoots: prepping looks, steaming and organizing garments, setting up and breaking down, and capturing behind-the-scenes content
- Assist with upcycling projects and keep materials and garments organized
- Pack and ship orders, and handle regular post office and shipping runs
- Run errands for the studio, such as picking up supplies, garments, and returns
- Organize, move, and maintain inventory, racks, and equipment in the studio, including lifting and carrying items
What I'm Looking For
- Strong Instagram skills and an eye for aesthetics; comfortable shooting and editing content on a phone
- Interest in vintage fashion, styling, design, or the creative industry
- Experience with Shopify or Square is a plus
- Must have a reliable car, a valid driver's license, and be comfortable running errands
- Physically able to lift and carry 20–40 lbs, stand for long periods, and move clothing racks and equipment
- Reliable, organized, and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently
- Flexible schedule, with availability for occasional longer days during photo shoots
- Any knowledge of sewing or basic textile construction would be great, but absolutely not necessary.
Details
- Hours: ~10 hours/week, flexible; additional hours during shoots
- Pay: $25/hour, plus mileage reimbursement for errands
- Location: In person at The Story, my shared studio in Santa Barbara, and around town for errands, with some social media and website work possibly done remotely
- Start date: Immediate
