About the Campaign

The Andre Sandford for California State Assembly campaign is seeking five creative and motivated Campaign Media & Design Interns interested in gaining hands-on experience in political communications, graphic design, social media, digital strategy, video production, and campaign branding.

Interns will work with campaign leadership to help communicate campaign priorities and policy ideas to voters through engaging digital and visual content.

This internship is designed for students interested in communications, graphic design, digital media, journalism, marketing, film/video production, political communications, public relations, or related fields.

Responsibilities

Campaign Media & Design Interns may assist with:

  • Creating graphics for Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, email, and other campaign platforms
  • Designing campaign flyers, event materials, digital advertisements, and informational graphics
  • Creating graphics explaining campaign policy proposals
  • Developing social media content and helping maintain the campaign's digital presence
  • Assisting with short-form video production for Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and other platforms
  • Editing campaign videos, speeches, interviews, and community-event footage
  • Creating captions, subtitles, thumbnails, and other digital assets
  • Assisting with campaign photography and video at community events
  • Helping develop creative concepts for policy announcements and campaign messages
  • Maintaining consistent campaign branding across digital and printed materials
  • Assisting with email graphics and digital campaign communications
  • Monitoring social media engagement and identifying opportunities for new content
  • Brainstorming creative ways to communicate complex public-policy issues in clear, relatable language
  • Participating in campaign communications and strategy meetings

What Interns Will Learn

Interns will gain practical experience in how modern political campaigns use design, video, social media, storytelling, branding, and digital communications to reach voters.

Interns will have opportunities to develop portfolio-quality work while learning about:

Political communications • Graphic design • Social media strategy • Video production • Digital advertising • Campaign branding • Public-policy communications • Voter engagement

The goal is for interns to leave the campaign with meaningful experience and work samples that can support future opportunities in campaigns, government, communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, advocacy, and digital media.

Qualifications

We are looking for students who are:

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university
  • Interested in media, communications, graphic design, marketing, journalism, video production, politics, or public service
  • Creative and interested in developing compelling visual content
  • Reliable and able to commit approximately 10–15 hours per week
  • Able to meet deadlines and manage multiple assignments
  • Strong communicators who are comfortable receiving feedback
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively
  • Interested in learning how communications and digital strategy operate within a political campaign

Previous political or campaign experience is not required.

Experience with programs such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or similar design/video tools is helpful but not required.

Portfolio

Applicants are encouraged to submit a small portfolio or examples of previous creative work.

Examples may include:

  • Social media graphics
  • Videos or Reels
  • Photography
  • Flyers or posters
  • Graphic-design projects
  • School projects
  • Digital advertisements
  • Other creative work

Professional experience is not required. Student and personal projects are welcome.

Academic Credit

This is an unpaid educational internship.

Students may be eligible to receive academic credit for this internship, subject to approval by their college or university.

The campaign is willing to work with students and their academic departments to complete appropriate internship documentation when required.

Leadership Opportunities

Interns who demonstrate strong creative ability, reliability, and leadership may have opportunities to lead digital projects, develop campaign content series, assist with major policy rollouts, coordinate campaign media projects, and take on expanded communications responsibilities under campaign leadership.
