Communications Intern: Part-Time

Location: Remote

Reports to: Director of Communications

Food Recovery Network (FRN), the largest student movement fighting food waste and hunger, is seeking a part-time Communications Intern. This position is ideal for someone currently in college or who is looking to start growing their professional skills.

The vision of success for this position is someone who enjoys cultivating and strengthening connections with students and food recovery partners across the U.S. to fight food waste, support communities, and help the environment. The ideal candidate can simultaneously manage multiple, detail-oriented projects in a fast-paced environment, exhibit strong communication skills, and is looking to work on a wide variety of projects. Responsibilities:

The Communications Assistant will primarily work with the Director of Communications to support current FRN student-led chapters. Work will include, but is not limited to: 

• Create relevant graphics and social media posts to promote programmatic efforts
• Increase engagement across our chapters, student leaders, alumni, and other programs through social media and blog posts
• Implement website updates as needed
• Assist in creating guides, social media content, and other materials to support chapter recruitment, food recoveries, and other challenges student chapters face
• Use analytics tools to gauge the success of social media posts
• Assist with other special communications projects such as End of Year fundraising campaign or Earth Action Month advocacy campaign
• Maintain a current list of available job postings for alumni and graduating students on website for student and alumni reference

Candidate Qualifications:

• Detail-oriented learner who can manage multiple projects at one time with a willingness to learn and try new things
• Excellent communication skills 
• Exhibit professionalism and determination 
• An exceptionally high level of integrity, trust, accountability, and judgment
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in real time
• Able to work as a supportive, involved team member
• A relationship builder, collaborator, and/or connector
• Sense of humor and creativity are a must
• Proficiency in Google Apps for Business
• Comfort using social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin, Threads, YouTube Shorts) and Online Graphic Design tools (Canva, etc)
• Availability to meet 1-2 times per week during FRN’s business hours (M-F: 10-5 ET)

Compensation:

This is an unpaid internship. This is a fixed-term position ending on June 15, 2027.
