Event DJ

Ace Wedding DJs is looking for current DJs or DJs-to-be who are service minded, charismatic, not shy to talk in front of groups of people, love music, and enjoy performing. We are looking to hire and train new DJs to perform at parties, event venues, and weddings, with working days mostly being spring, summer, and fall weekends (May-October). Equipment and Training is provided by the company along with hands-on experience at events with our ownership and other pro lead DJs. If you love music, you're organized and the life of the party, this is the role for you! 

 

Qualifications: Every DJ starts somewhere! Music experience of any kind is preferred but not required. Event DJ must be confident with public speaking and have a passion for music. Experience with live performance of any kind is preferred but not required. Ideal candidates will have a thorough understanding of music structure, music knowledge across eras, skilled at ‘reading the room’, displays confidence on a microphone, are organized, and operate with a service mindset. Experience with DJ software such as Rekordbox, Serato, VirtualDJ, etc strongly preferred. 

 

Job Duties include:

 

Training: Event DJ will be expected to train with Ace Ownership and Pro DJs at events, in office, or at other agreed upon locations. Ace Wedding DJs will provide hands-on training on all aspects of Event DJ roles and share best practices for event management, MCing, Music Selection, and Live-Mixing (DJing)

 

As DJ Assistant/Trainee:

Pre-Event Organization, Communication, and Music Preparation: Trainees will shadow Lead Event DJs through the entire event process. Trainees will be expected to participate in Lead DJ's preparation and execution of DJ Events. Trainees will follow along with the Lead DJ's process and will be expected to perform music preparation independently and/or as collaborators with the Lead DJ. Trainees may be expected to be present for Phone or Video communication with Event Hosts in order to learn the processes and methods of Lead DJs. 

Day-Of: Trainees will shadow Lead Event DJs through the entire event process. Trainees will be expected to participate in, watch, and/or assist Lead DJ's in execution of DJ Events. Participation will include preparing and loading necessary equipment, travel to event locations, unload and set up equipment at the event location, management of the equipment, and assisting lead DJ with equipment management, MC duties, and DJ performance. Trainees will assist lead DJ with disassembly and loading of event equipment at the end of the event. 

 

As Lead Event DJ:

Pre-Event Organization, Communication, and Music Preparation: Lead DJs will be responsible for communicating with their event organizer(s). When booked for events, event hosts will provide information to the DJ describing the timeline, setting, requirements, music preferences, and overall expectations for the event. Event DJs will be available to event hosts for pre-event Phone or Video calls to collaborate on music and align on event expectations. Lead DJ will prepare for each event by collecting the appropriate equipment from Ace Wedding DJs and downloading all necessary documents and music for the event to their personal laptop computer.

 

Day-Of: Event DJ will be responsible for loading all necessary equipment into their personal vehicle and transporting to the event location. Event DJ will arrive at event location at or before the expected time provided by the event host and/or Ace Wedding DJs. Event DJ will unload and set up equipment at the event location prior to the start of the event based on the requirements of the event. Event DJ will perform duties such as playing music, acting as Event MC, managing equipment, and performing as the Event DJ. At the end of the event, Event DJ will be responsible for disassembly and loading of event equipment. 

 

Candidates will be provided appropriate equipment to perform job duties including a DJ Mixer and Speakers. This is a great bonus for young adults as we encourage lots of practice at home and in front of people. 

 

Must live in Michigan, ideally near Grand Rapids, Michigan. All training and work opportunities will be in Michigan, primarily within 65 miles of Grand Rapids.
