Furniture Sales - Interior Designer

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is the primary point of contact for customers shopping for high-quality, custom, and designer furniture. This is a consultative sales role focused on discovery, product guidance, order accuracy, and closing. Success requires strong product knowledge, disciplined follow-through, and a customer experience that earns repeat and referral business.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Meet with showroom customers to understand their lifestyle, room dimensions, style preferences, budget, and timeline, then translate that into a clear furnishing plan.
Create design-forward solutions including layouts, finish and fabric coordination, and complete-room packages (furniture, rugs, lighting, art, accessories) that increase average ticket and reduce returns.
Sell consultatively by presenting curated good-better-best options, explaining construction and materials, guiding custom orders, and confidently closing while protecting gross margin.
Deliver a high-touch experience from first visit through post-delivery.

- Prepare accurate quotes, orders, and paperwork; confirm specifications, dimensions, and special instructions
- Follow up on leads, quotes, and open orders to close sales
- Maintain showroom standards (merchandising, tag accuracy, cleanliness) and support floor moves as directed
Customer Experience Standards
- Own the relationship from greeting to delivery confirmation and post-delivery check-in when needed
- Set clear expectations on lead times, delivery windows, and special-order terms
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of consultative retail sales experience (furniture, design, decorating, or other descriptive based selling
- Strong communication, listening, and closing skills; comfortable asking for the sale
- Ability to learn product specifications, dimensions, fabrics, finishes, and vendor programs quickly
- High attention to detail and order accuracy; comfortable with paperwork and systems
- Comfortable standing/walking for extended periods and assisting with light merchandising tasks
Preferred Qualifications
- Furniture, interior design, or home furnishings experience
- Experience with CRM/point-of-sale systems and basic Excel/Google Sheets
Performance Measures (What does good look like)
- Sales volume, margin performance, and close rate against targets
- Order accuracy and reduction in rework (correct specs, fewer post-sale changes)
- Follow-up discipline (lead response time, quote conversion, appointment set rate)
- Customer satisfaction and repeat/referral contribution
Compensation
Compensation includes a base draw/salary (as applicable) plus commission and incentive opportunities based on performance and margin. There is a base salary and competitive commission tied to pricing/cost factor, as well as monthly volume and ranking bonuses.
Schedule and Work Requirements
- Weekend availability is required; typical schedules include evenings and holidays based on store needs
- Professional appearance and punctuality are required
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally and assist with light floor moves as directed
Working Conditions
- Frequent phone and computer work; sustained attention to detail
- Occasional light physical activity (walking showroom/warehouse, handling small parts)
- May require occasional travel between store locations and Bedford warehouse
