Position Summary

The Music/Band Teacher will teach music to lower elementary students and teach and direct band programs for middle and high school students. The teacher will prepare students for concerts and community events and support extracurricular music activities including the high school pep band at athletic events. Shared responsibility for the Veteran’s Day program, Christmas concert, and spring concert is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate general music instruction for lower elementary students.
  • Direct, rehearse, and conduct middle and high school band ensembles. Provide practice times for students who desire to begin or improve their musical skills.
  • Organize and prepare students for concerts, festivals, contests, and community performances.
  • Provide staffing/time commitment for the high school pep band to perform at home athletic events as scheduled.
  • Share planning and the performance of the Veteran’s Day program, Christmas concert, and spring concert.
  • Assess student progress, maintain accurate records, and communicate regularly with families about student achievement and performance schedules.
  • Manage instrument inventory, classroom materials, and care of school-owned instruments.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and administration to include music in school events and curriculum.
  • Attend school and community events; actively participate as a member of our small school community.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, or equivelant
  • Current and valid state teaching certificate for music at the appropriate levels.
  • Ability to organize and supervise student performances and extracurricular events.
  • Communicate regularly and constructively with families and guardians about student progress, needs, and successes.
  • Ability to pass DCI/FBI background check.

Preferred:

  • Proficiency with a range of band instruments and music 
  • Willingness to sponsor or support additional student music activities.
