Maple River Messenger - weekly newspaper serving the greater Maple River area of Vernon Center, Amboy, Good Thunder, Mapleton, Minnesota Lake and surrounding areas.
We are seeking a motivated, community-minded Newspaper Editor to lead editorial operations at the Maple River Messenger, office in Mapleton, MN. This position plays a key role in delivering accurate, engaging, and timely news that reflects the voice and values of the communities we serve.

Position Overview
The Editor is responsible for planning, producing, and overseeing all editorial content for the Maple River Messenger. This includes writing, editing, layout, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Write and edit news, feature stories, and community content for print and digital publication
Perform pagination for each edition with a strong eye for style and detail
Lead editorial and advertising teams with a focus on both digital and print publication
Ensure accuracy, AP style consistency, and adherence to editorial standards
Manage weekly production deadlines and coordinate issue planning
Cover local government meetings, events, and breaking news as needed
Develop relationships with community members, organizations, and contributors
Review and edit submissions, including press releases and community announcements
Collaborate with advertising and design teams to ensure cohesive publication layout
Manage editorial calendars and plan special sections or features
Maintain the newspaper’s voice, integrity, and credibility in the community
Qualifications
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
Familiarity with AP Style and journalistic standards preferred
Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
Comfortable working independently in a small-team environment
Strong communication and community engagement skills
Basic photography skills a plus
Experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop; Illustrator preferred but not required
Previous journalism or editorial experience preferred

Position type: Full Time
Flexible schedule with some evening meeting coverage required
