Worship Ministry Leader

Reports to: Senior Pastor
Status: Part-Time (15-20 hours per week)
Compensation: Very Competitive
Benefits: Two (2) paid Sundays off annually with coordinated coverage.

Position Summary

The Part-Time Worship Ministry Leader provides leadership for the worship ministry of the church through both pastoral care and creative leadership. This role oversees weekly worship planning and execution while also shepherding the worship team through intentional relationships, spiritual encouragement, and development. This role leads the worship ministry but does not supervise paid staff, working collaboratively with the Tech Director and volunteers.

The Worship Ministry Leader partners with the Senior Pastor and Tech Director to ensure worship gatherings are theologically grounded, well-planned, relationally healthy, and spiritually meaningful.

 

Key Responsibilities

Weekly Worship Leadership

  • Plan and organize worship music for weekly Sunday services.
  • Lead a mid-week rehearsal with the worship team, providing both musical preparation and spiritual leadership.
  • Lead worship vocally and instrumentally during services.
  • Maintain a consistent and healthy rehearsal rhythm that respects volunteers’ time.

Pastoral Leadership & Team Development

  • Serve as a pastoral presence to worship team members through encouragement, prayer, and relational investment.
  • Build meaningful relationships with team members and foster a culture of trust, unity, and spiritual maturity.
  • Care for the spiritual and emotional health of the worship team and communicate pastoral concerns to the Senior Pastor when appropriate.
  • Help develop the musical and leadership skills of team members through coaching and feedback.
  • Cultivate an environment where volunteers feel known, valued, and equipped for ministry.

Service & Experience Planning

  • Meet regularly with the Senior Pastor for service planning (schedule determined collaboratively).
  • Help design and execute meaningful worship experiences for major services including but not limited to:
    • Ash Wednesday
    • Good Friday
    • Easter Sunrise & Easter Sunday
    • Mother’s Day / Father’s Day
    • Christmas Eve & Christmas

Ministry Organization & Collaboration

  • Use Planning Center software to organize services and communicate with volunteers.
  • Work closely with the Tech Director to communicate song selections, arrangements, and technical needs.
  • Be familiar with ProPresenter software to trouble shoot and assist with lyric projection as needed.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication across worship and tech teams.

Equipment & Environment

  • Ensure worship ministry equipment is respected, organized, and communicated about when needs arise.
  • Ensure the stage and worship environment are prepared and orderly each week.

Spiritual & Personal Qualifications

  • A growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • A pastoral heart for ministry, discipleship, and people.
  • Alignment with the church’s mission, values, and theological direction.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience leading worship teams.
  • Ability to lead worship confidently through vocals and at least one instrument.
  • Strong musical preparation and leadership skills.
  • Experience using Planning Center or willingness to learn quickly.

Character & Disposition

  • Excited about leading worship and shepherding a team.
  • Relationally healthy, humble, and collaborative.
  • Organized, dependable, and self-directed within defined expectations.

 

Time Expectations

This role is designed to average approximately 15-20 hours per week, including Sunday services, rehearsals, planning, meetings, and pastoral care for the worship team. Workload may flex seasonally around major services with clear communication and shared expectations. This is not designed to function as a full-time role compressed into part-time hours. As the church grows, this role may develop further in scope and leadership responsibility.
