Photography Assistant

Position: Photo Assistant for Home Interiors and Textiles

Location: Augusta, Greenville, Atlanta

Compensation: Competitive hourly wage, commensurate with experience

Schedule: Part-time, once or twice a month. Shoots take place on weekdays usually between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Schedule will vary based on shoot location and production needs. On the low end, I need help once or twice a month (8-20 hours). On the high end I need help 4 days a month ( 24 hours) with the potential for additional hours as the business grows.

I'm seeking an assistant for home interior and product shoots which will require a mix of creative, technical and manual labor:

  1. Home interior shoots: This is different than real estate photography and requires much more time intensive care and styling of rooms in high-end homes. The goal is not to sell the home but rather to capture the talent of the interior designers' work to use for their portfolios and potentially pitch to magazines for publication.
  2. Textile product shoots: I need assistance with handling and managing a high volume of fabrics that need to be shot for a high-end commercial textile designer. These photos are used to help sell the product via e-commerce by photographing yardage, swatches, pillows and lifestyle details. The majority of these are taken in studio controlled lighting.

General job duties include helping the lead photographer set up and break down equipment, including cameras, lighting, and props. This will require the ability to lift heavy bags of gear, move up and down stairs with equipment and get on the ground for staging needs. There are a variety of tasks that require attention to detail and being proactive and careful while handling high-end equipment surrounded by the homeowner’s high-end furniture and accessories. In addition to handling photo equipment, I will ask the assistant for help with styling accessories, moving furniture, and cleaning the surrounding area for home interior shoots. For textile (product) shoots, I will need help with ironing, styling, moving heavy fabric by the yard, and packing up and shipping fabric back to the mill it came from.

Applicant does not have to have experience with the technical aspects of photo gear or previous experience with home interior or textile photoshoots. However, applicant absolutely needs to be detail oriented, proactive, perceptive and an artist or photographer of some kind. Ideal candidates are new photographers or experienced photographers looking for extra work and the ability to meet other professionals in the interiors and product creative industry.

There is the potential for further consistent paid work if applicant is reliable, trustworthy and shows great work ethic. There is much to do and I will happily provide more work hours if there is a good, growing working relationship.

Home base is Evans, GA but assistant must be able to travel to Greenville, SC, Atlanta, GA, and other areas in the Carolinas and Georgia. Compensation will be offered.
