Video Production Internship

The Rochester Red Wings are offering an educational opportunity for a talented Video Production Intern to learn from the Director of Video Production and Broadcast at Innovative Field. This internship will provide hands-on experience in sports media production, focusing on live broadcast operations and in-game entertainment during Red Wings home games. In addition to game broadcasts, the internship will expose you to a wide range of video production projects — including sponsorship features, promotional content, and special event coverage — providing valuable insight into the workflow of a professional sports production department.

Educational Experience

As a Video Production Intern, you will receive training that builds on classroom learning and academic experience under the supervision of experienced professionals. This internship aims to strengthen your technical and creative skills in video production, while giving you real-world exposure to the fast-paced environment of live sports entertainment. You will have the opportunity to work closely with the Red Wings’ in-house production crew, gaining practical knowledge in live control room operations, camera work, editing, and content creation.

Key Learning Areas

Broadcast Operations: Gain experience assisting with live game broadcasts, including operating cameras, replay systems, and video boards during games. Learn how a professional broadcast team coordinates production elements in real time.

In-Game Production: Learn how to produce and execute in-game entertainment elements such as player features, crowd prompts, sponsor activations, and scoreboard graphics. Understand how each element enhances the fan experience.

Video Editing & Content Creation: Develop skills in editing highlight reels, interviews, and promotional videos using industry-standard software. Learn how to adapt content for digital platforms and in-stadium use.

Technical Setup & Equipment Management: Assist in setting up and maintaining cameras, lighting, and audio equipment. Learn best practices for managing production gear and troubleshooting technical issues.

Collaboration & Storytelling: Work alongside the communications, marketing, and social media teams to create cohesive video content that supports organizational initiatives and enhances brand storytelling.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Currently pursuing a degree in communications, media production, film, broadcasting, or a related field.

Practical knowledge of camera operation, video editing, and/or live production equipment.

Strong attention to detail, creativity, and ability to perform under deadline pressure.

Collaborative mindset with a willingness to learn and contribute in a team setting.

Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays during the baseball season.

Must be fulfilling academic credit requirements for the internship.

Additional Learning Opportunities

Develop a deeper understanding of the live sports production process from pre-production to post-production.

Enhance communication, technical, and creative storytelling skills in a real-world environment.

Build a professional portfolio of broadcast and video content created in collaboration with a Triple-A baseball organization.

Provide training similar to that offered in an educational environment.

Be for the benefit of the intern, offering skills useful in various media production roles.

Ensure interns do not displace regular employees and are under close supervision.

Not provide an immediate advantage to the employer, with the focus on the intern’s learning.
