Photography Internship

The Rochester Red Wings are offering an exciting educational opportunity for a photography enthusiast looking to gain experience in sports photography. This internship will provide hands-on learning experiences in capturing the energy and spirit of our games, players, and fans.

Educational Experience

As a Photography Intern, you will receive training that builds on classroom knowledge and academic experience, closely supervised by experienced professionals. This internship aims to enhance your skills, providing you with practical knowledge and experience that are transferable to any similar business in the field. You will have the opportunity to engage in real-world projects, gaining insights into the photography and visual storytelling strategies of a professional sports organization.

Key Learning Areas

  • Game and Event Photography: Learn to capture high-quality photographs of games, practices, special events, and behind-the-scenes activities, enhancing your ability to document dynamic and exciting moments.
  • Content Collaboration: Develop skills in working closely with the Content Production and Social Media teams to provide compelling visuals that enhance our storytelling, gaining experience in collaborative content creation.
  • Photo Management: Gain proficiency in managing and organizing the photo database, including tagging, editing, and archiving images, ensuring efficient and effective use of photographic assets.
  • Photo Editing: Learn to edit photos according to brand guidelines using software such as Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom, improving your technical editing skills.
  • Photoshoot Coordination: Develop skills in coordinating photoshoots with players and staff members as needed, learning the logistical aspects of professional photography.
  • Media Requests: Learn to fulfill photo requests from media and other departments within the organization, enhancing your ability to meet diverse client needs.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a degree in Photography, Visual Arts, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Some previous experience in photography, preferably in sports or event settings.
  • Proficiency with digital cameras and lenses, and familiarity with professional-grade photography equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of photo editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a knack for storytelling through images.
  • Available to work during games, events, and practices, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Must be fulfilling academic credit requirements for the internship.

To ensure the position is a true educational experience and not an employment relationship, the internship will:

  • Ensure interns do not displace regular employees and are under close supervision.
  • Not provide an immediate advantage to the employer, with the focus on the intern’s learning.
  • Not guarantee a job at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Include written notification to interns that they will not receive wages and are not considered employees for minimum wage purposes.
