Mechanical Engineering Research Intern

This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in cutting-edge mechanical engineering research and development.

We are seeking highly motivated interns to join a research project team. Each applicant will be evaluated based on their academic discipline, skills, and interest area. All students should be able to showcase skills both within their technical field, as well as in working with teams, problem solving, communication, and initiative.

Depending on the project you are assigned to these could be some of your key responsibilities:

  • Research and Analysis:
    • Assist in the design, simulation, and analysis of mechanical components and systems.
    • Conduct literature reviews to support ongoing research projects.
    • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data.
  • Prototype Development:
    • Support the fabrication and assembly of prototypes for testing.
    • Perform tests on mechanical systems and document performance metrics.
    • Suggest design modifications based on test results and analysis.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations on research findings.
    • Document experimental procedures, results, and design iterations.
    • Present findings to the team during research reviews.
  • Collaboration and Innovation:
    • Work closely with engineers and researchers to develop innovative solutions.
    • Contribute ideas to improve existing designs and processes.
    • Participate in brainstorming sessions and technical discussions.
  • Compliance and Safety:
    • Follow all safety protocols and ensure proper handling of equipment.
    • Maintain a clean and organized workspace in the lab.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science.
  • Prior research experience or familiarity with lab equipment is a plus.

On-site Supervision and Support

Our internships include 24/7 on-site staff to support students working and living abroad. All students will also report to a supervisor at their internship site. Supervisors provide and oversee daily tasks, introduce the intern to team members, and mentor the intern in organizational agility, skill acquisition, and career readiness. Interns complete a midpoint and final evaluation, and supervisors complete a final evaluation of their interns. All work responsibilities and projects are approved in advance. 

Academic Credit

Students on an internship have the opportunity to enroll in their home university for credit, or enroll in a course through API to transfer back to their university for credit. Email support-internships@apiexperience.com for more information and a syllabus.
