3D CAD Designer
Position: 3D CAD Designer – Upholstered Seating Furniture
Job Type: Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM (1 hour lunch)
Pay: $26-$28/hr. (Willing to negotiate for the right candidate)
Company Overview: We are a leading upholstered seating furniture manufacturer serving the hospitality industry, creating high-quality custom products for some of the world’s most recognized hotel and commercial brands. We are seeking a detail-oriented 3D CAD Designer with strong experience in frame construction and foam development to support our design and production team in bringing concepts to life efficiently and accurately.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models of upholstered furniture, including wooden frames, foam layouts, and finished product assemblies.
- Design and document internal frame structures for strength, durability, and ease of assembly.
- Lay out and model foam shapes and layering techniques for optimal comfort and design intent.
- Collaborate with upholstery, CNC, and engineering departments to ensure manufacturability.
- Translate customer specifications, drawings, or sketches into production-ready CAD files.
- Generate accurate BOMs, cut lists, and technical drawings for shop floor and vendor use.
- Assist in prototyping, NPD, and problem-solving during sampling or production runs.
- Support pattern makers with 3D geometry and shape transitions.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Rhino, or similar).
- Experience designing wood frames for upholstered furniture, including joinery and reinforcement details.
- Strong understanding of foam construction (contouring, densities, lamination, etc.) for seating comfort.
- Knowledge of how CAD translates to production—particularly in CNC cutting and upholstery.
- Ability to visualize and resolve complex design and ergonomic challenges.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree or certification in Furniture Design, Industrial Design, Engineering, or related field.
- Experience in hospitality or contract furniture manufacturing.
- Familiarity with CNC cutting, nesting software, and fabric/leather application.
- Experience using tools like Lectra, AlphaCAM, or AccuMark is a plus.
