Minister of Worship and Music
Position Summary
Christ the Servant Lutheran Church is seeking a Minister of Worship & Music to lead the congregation in vibrant worship, to foster spiritual growth, and to assist in developing a gospel-centered community. The Minister of Worship & Music is responsible for providing Gospel centered worship leadership through music and liturgy, engaging others to share their musical gifts, and developing avenues to engage with community partners. This position will partner with the pastor in creating worship that is grounded in the Lutheran tradition while remaining relevant to a 21st century culture that connects with multiple generations. As a member of leadership, this role is first about relating to and caring for people not only through worship and music, but through all aspects of our community life together.
WORSHIP & MUSIC LEADERSHIP (50%)(8 hours)
- Cultivate an atmosphere that allows members to experience Jesus.
- Plan, coordinate, and lead engaging worship experiences (currently one service on Sunday morning with seasonal mid-week evening services) that reflect Lutheran (ELCA) traditions, expands our musicology in modern ways, and connects with diverse generations.
- Direct and rehearse musical groups, including but not limited to the Choir and Handbells.
- Teach and introduce new music and worship practices to the congregation.
- Collaborate with the Pastor and lay leaders to create meaningful liturgical experiences, including seasonal and special services (e.g., Advent, Christmas, Holy Week, funerals, weddings).
- Connect to the larger community through music and worship.
COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP (20%)(3 hours)
- Cultivate and encourage a welcoming and supportive environment that is intergenerational and inclusive of those who are differently abled in worship and music ministries.
- Develop and lead initiatives to build relationships and foster a sense of belonging particularly with the unhoused and underprivileged right outside our doors.
- Participate actively as part of the ministry staff in the care of the community.
- Seek and recruit new people and ways to develop musical offerings, guide people in their faith journey, and celebrate people’s gifts and talents.
ADMINISTRATIVE (30%)(4 hours)
- Manage the music ministry budget, including purchasing materials and maintaining instruments.
- Oversee the organization and care of the church’s music library and equipment.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with staff, volunteers, and the congregation.
- Ensure compliance with copyright laws and proper use of liturgical resources and reporting.
- Update and utilize worship planning tools (i.e. Planning Center) of the church.
- Find and negotiate supply organist/pianist during time off and any other outside musicians needed for worship.
QUALIFICATIONS & PROFICENCIES
- Bachelor’s degree in music, Ministry, or a related field is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in leading worship and successful music programs within a faith community.
- Strong interpersonal and relational skills, with the ability to mentor, disciple, and inspire others.
- Proficiency in piano and ensemble leadership. Organ, handbell experience, vocal skills, and/or other musical talents are a plus.
- A passion for building community and nurturing faith through music and worship.
- Familiarity with Lutheran (ELCA) liturgical traditions and modern worship styles is preferred.
