UX/UI WordPress Developer

About R&A Marketing

R&A Marketing empowers independent furniture retailers to elevate their brand presence through thoughtful design, clear messaging, and high-performing digital experiences. Our web team builds WordPress sites that go beyond aesthetics - they’re responsive, fast, accessible, and tightly integrated with dynamic product data.

We’re looking for a UX/UI Web Developer to join our growing web team, which includes creative leadership, strategy, and technical support. In this role, you’ll collaborate with project managers and fellow developers to build, update, and refine client websites. You’ll also work closely with our Web Creative Director, who leads the design vision - using both visual tools and hands-on coding to ensure flexibility, reliability, and performance.

What You’ll Do

Website Development & Front-End Execution

  • Build and maintain responsive WordPress websites using a visual builder and structured theme components (using a modern WordPress theme builder with global design controls, responsive layout tools, and modular template creation).
  • Translate design mockups and creative direction into clean, functional, and user-friendly layouts.
  • Customize templates and elements using HTML, CSS, and light PHP/JavaScript when needed.
  • Visually critique your own work and seek collaboration from peers and project managers for feedback.

Project & Task Management

  • Manage your own time and tasks to keep projects on track with minimal supervision
  • Prioritize work across multiple assignments/projects and adjust as project needs shift
  • Communicate clearly with team members about progress, blockers, and next steps - including daily summary reports
  • Work with the team to estimate timelines and stay aligned on deliverables and communicate expectations to clients

Client Communication

  • Communicate professionally and clearly with our clients through email, support platforms, and occasional video calls
  • Translate technical details into easy-to-understand updates, and respond to client needs with empathy and efficiency
  • Represent R&A’s core values by being Respectful, Responsive, and Reliable in every interaction while maintaining a friendly and engaging demeanor

Wordpress Coding & Site Functionality

  • Write clean, maintainable code (HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript) to support layouts, custom fields, and product catalog logic.
  • Troubleshoot layout bugs, API integration issues, or plugin conflicts as needed.
  • Build small reusable components or snippets to reduce plugin dependency and improve performance.

WooCommerce & Product Catalog Integration

  • Configure and manage WooCommerce stores, including product setup, filtering, attributes, and promotional displays.
  • Integrate and display product data delivered via RESTful JSON APIs with pagination, mapping that data to dynamic templates.
  • Use structured workflows to manage incoming data and ensure accurate, up-to-date product content across websites.

Performance, Accessibility & Optimization

  • Optimize websites for performance across devices, applying caching strategies, image optimization, and efficient scripting.
  • Ensure websites meet Core Web Vitals benchmarks and mobile-first responsiveness.
  • Implement accessibility best practices (WCAG 2.1/2.2), including semantic HTML, ARIA roles, clear focus states, and screen reader support.
  • Use compliance monitoring tools and review processes to maintain accessibility standards across builds.

Process Improvement & Innovation

  • Be curious: Look for ways to improve how we work whether it's streamlining tasks or simplifying steps
  • Stay curious and open to new tools, especially AI or other technologies that can boost efficiency or site performance
  • Share ideas and explore better methods for building, testing, or launching sites
  • Help document new processes so the whole team benefits

SEO Structure & On-Site Schema

  • Follow on-page SEO best practices including heading hierarchy, alt text, internal linking, and optimized metadata.
  • Implement structured data/schema markup (e.g., product, review, FAQ) through standardized formats and tools.
  • Support SEO-readiness through clean site architecture and fast-loading, well-organized content.

Support, QA & Collaboration

  • Respond to internal tickets and client support requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Test builds across modern browsers and devices, identifying issues in layout, responsiveness, and interactivity.
  • Conduct full QA checks across devices and browsers, verifying content accuracy, navigation flow, and functional integrity.
  • Collaborate with internal team members to refine our development process and contribute to reusable frameworks and components.

What We’re Looking For

Must-Have Skills

  • 2–4 years of experience building custom WordPress websites in a production, agency, or  freelance/contract environment environment
  • Hands-on experience with WooCommerce: product setup, taxonomy, filtering, and storefront optimization
  • Proficiency with consuming RESTful JSON APIs, including paginated data integration (This role focuses on consuming and displaying data, not developing APIs or backend logic)
  • Strong understanding of responsive design, UX principles, and accessibility fundamentals
  • Experience optimizing websites for performance and meeting Core Web Vitals standards
  • Ability to implement and manage structured data (schema markup) for SEO enhancement
  • Familiarity with custom fields, post types, and dynamic content templating
  • Basic proficiency in HTML, CSS, and PHP (with light JavaScript)
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort working within a remote, collaborative team
  • Strong working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and PHP (with light to moderate JavaScript), with the ability to write and debug code to support custom layouts, dynamic content, and catalog functionality.
  • This is a front-end WordPress development role focused on implementation, integration, and performance - not full-stack architecture or backend API development

Bonus Experience

  • Experience managing large product catalogs, website body copy, or retail-focused content structures
  • Familiarity with design tools (Figma, Canva, or Photoshop) for asset preparation or light image editing
  • Comfort using AI-assisted tools or automation platforms to streamline tasks and updates
  • Previous work in agency environments or with furniture/home goods brands

Why You’ll Love This Role

You won’t be dropped into a templated production line. You’ll be a key player in evolving how we build and scale websites - balancing ease of use with technical excellence. Working alongside a Creative Director, your focus will be making sure the websites function smoothly, look great across devices, and empower our clients to succeed online.
