PV Solar Design & Project Management Internship

About the Internship

GAI Energy is seeking someone interested in renewable energy with an eye to detail.  This candidate would learn to assist with design and drawing packages for PV solar projects.  Project job packet compilation to prepare the installation crews for upcoming jobs would also be included in the position, including permitting evaluation and acquisition, and interconnection assistance.

 

Electrical design and documentation are critical for permitting and interconnection approval on PV solar contracts.  The intern will be taught the details of creating the necessary design drawings.  In addition, the intern would assist with job preparation for upcoming jobs, providing clear communication to the project manager and team leaders on job details to keep operations running smoothly.

 

This is a paid internship.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Create electrical single-line drawings to be used in permitting and interconnection applications.
  • Contact permitting jurisdictions to confirm requirements for PV solar installations.
  • Apply for utility interconnection on upcoming projects, including compiling all needed documentation from customers and the engineering team.
  • Help track engineering documentation and material acquisition for projects to determine when a job is ready to begin construction.
  • Review the job packet with the sales rep, project manager and team lead to make sure project scope is clearly communicated.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled at IUK or recently graduated from an Environmental Science, Applied Science, Business Management or a related field program.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to personably and professionally engage permitting and interconnection authorities and customers comfortably via phone and email.
  • Required Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and preferred experience with Computer Aided Design programs as they’ll be used on the job.
  • Organized and self-motivated, and able to work across multiple projects proficiently.
  • Inclination to clearly communicate needs and gaps in understanding to leadership.

This internship is part of Fueling the Future: Training Tomorrow’s Renewable Energy Leaders, a workforce development initiative funded by the Duke Energy Foundation and administered through the Office of Sustainability at Indiana University Kokomo.  The program is designed to prepare students for careers in Indiana’s clean energy and sustainability sectors by providing paid, skills-based internships with industry partners.
