
Contract Junior Graphic Designer

About Us: The Sonoma County Library Foundation empowers the Sonoma County Library system through financial enrichment, community connections, and library advocacy. Since our founding in 1986, we've served as vocal advocates, dedicated funders, and champions for the libraries across our community. As our fundraising efforts expand, so does the need for creative, high-quality graphic design to support donor campaigns, community outreach, and event promotion.
Position Summary: The Junior Graphic Designer is a contract part-time position that provides creative design support for the Foundation’s print and digital communications on a project by project basis. Under the supervision of the Art Director, this role will assist in producing a variety of materials including flyers, signage, event invitations, digital graphics, and fundraising collateral. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or emerging designer looking to build their portfolio and gain experience in a mission-driven nonprofit setting.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize industry-standard graphics software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Canva, WordPress) and online tools to complete design projects.
- Create original artwork, illustrations, and icons for a variety of formats including signage, flyers, posters, brochures, and social media.
- Apply and maintain consistency with established brand guidelines and visual identity across all design materials.
- Prepare accurate, high-quality print-ready files for internal or external production.
- Support digital design needs, including social media graphics, website banners, and email campaigns.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and creative meetings with the Art Director and Foundation staff.
- Maintain a schedule of project timelines and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Assist with light photo editing or retouching, and resizing or cropping images for various platforms.
Qualifications
- Completion of or current enrollment in coursework equivalent to 12 semester units in fine arts, graphic design, communications, marketing, web design, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of design principles, color theory, typography, and layout.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
- Ability to take direction, receive feedback, and work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Interest in nonprofit, community-based, or library-related work is a plus.
- Must have your own computer, access to Adobe Suite and integrated camera for virtual meetings.

Compensation & Schedule
