Teaching Artist

We are seeking a Teaching Artist with a focus in fashion/design to teach a 26 week (6 hours per week) course to young adults (14-20). 

Background The Youth Speak program believes in the transformative power of art as a vehicle for healing divisions, strengthening community, and creative self-expression. The program aims to utilize art as a tool for self-reflection, and exploration of social issues impacting youth. This program will contextualize workforce development and work ready behaviors, social cohesion, alliance building, youth asset identification, confident communication, good decision making in an arts-based curriculum that will activate and nurture individual leadership qualities and will create space for community engagement projects. 

1. Teaching Artists will develop their own curriculum based on their art forms that are in line with overall goals  – Our themes this year are combating stigma and closing the health and wealth gap  

2. Teaching Artist will work with other Teaching Artist and Program Director to provide a cohesive program to the youth 

Though we are looking for a fashion/design focus, we would be opening to hiring teachers with a background in graphic design, painting, or sewing. 

Duration/Compensation The program will last approximately 26 weeks beginning in October and ending in May. Teaching Artists are expected to work 8 hours a week: 6 hours of contact with students and 2 hours of working time/curriculum development. Teaching Artists will be compensated $50/ hour. Classes meet Tuesday and Wednesday from 4-7pm. 

We are also open to splitting the semesters for a 13 week duration class.
