Sr. CAD Designer

TITLE: Sr. CAD Designer 

DEPARTMENT: Engineering

REPORTS TO: Design Lead

LOCATION: Onsite Viola, WI

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Develops powertrain product concepts, designs, models, prints, and checks detailed designs, for prototype and production, with all specifications for parts and finished products.  Can work independently and is able to act as a mentor to other designers. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Can independently work to create design solutions involving complex 3-D designs and assemblies 

Analyzes engineering sketches, specifications and related data to determine design of size, shape and arrangement of parts

Creates layouts of parts and determines angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances and hole locations, using established S&S and industry standards

Determines if part meets safe working stress levels with engineering input and adjusts design to suit

Drafts detailed multi-view prototype and production drawings of parts, sub assemblies and main assemblies 

Ability to work with purchasing, suppliers, and manufacturing to obtain project related information with minimal guidance

Conducts engineering design reviews with all stakeholders to determine if design changes are required

Reviews with manufacturing engineering, confirming manufacturability and assembly

Revises design as required to accept supplier process capabilities

Experienced in accurately checking drawings and models of any complexity 

Advanced knowledge of and ability to create and modify bills of materials using engineering change orders

Thoroughly understand and adhere to the department goals, objectives, and strategy 

Establish and maintain credibility throughout the organization as an effective developer of solutions 

Present and maintain positive morale amongst employees

Preferred: Experience using CAD based FEA and/or related engineering software to evaluate design iterations

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Flexible, energetic, forward-thinking, and creative with high moral and ethical standards

Minimum (5) years experience working as a CAD Designer with proficiency using software like Solidworks, Creo, CoCreate, Solid Designer, Pro-E, Inventor, or similar software

Previous experience with castings, machining, material selection, and ERP systems

Experienced with Design for Assembly, Design for Manufacture, Design for Cost   

Able to relate to people at all levels of the organization in a positive fashion

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; working knowledge of computer applications

Knowledgeable in use of GDT 

Preferred: Knowledge of I.C. engines, materials, and manufacturing processes

 

PHYSICAL AND PPE REQUIREMENTS:  

Employee is regularly required to:

Stand, Use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls, Talk and hear, Walk, stoop, crouch and bend, Reach above shoulders, Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance

Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception

Must comply with safety equipment standards; safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toed shoes

 

TRAVEL:

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required
