Salary Group:                      B18 $45,521 - $71,055

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Transportation Planner I reports directly to the Director of Transportation & Environmental Resources (T&ER) and will assist in conducting short and long-range transportation planning, demographic analysis, and air quality planning activities.

Work involves planning, developing, and implementing transportation plans/programs.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  1. Immediate Supervisor: Transportation and Environmental Resources Director
  2. Employees Supervised: None
  3. Other: Has regular contact with other T&ER personnel, elected officials, local and state governmental staff, and the general public.

 

Examples of Work:

  • Collects, organizes, and analyzes data required in the development of transportation plans or programs.
  • Tracks projects and programs, maintaining relevant databases and tracking information.
  • Composes, reviews, and edits technical documents, material, and reports
  • Research federal and state regulations and other information as required.
  • Assists other planning staff as appropriate.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

General Qualifications Guidelines:

  • Bachelor’s degree required and Master’s degree preferred in Urban or Regional Planning, Economics, Public Administration, Geography, Political Science, or Related Field.
     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) preferred.
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
  • Experience in planning and research work preferred.

 

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED

Valid Texas driver’s license and reliable personal transportation.
